Taking The Plunge : From 9-5 to Full Time Internet Marketer

Home BuddyI finally became a full time Internet Marketer after my last contract job ended yesterday. My contract job involved customizing a large Oracle based database application that had been implemented by the local council. I truly enjoyed the role I was hired to do but I haven’t been a happy bunny in the past year. I had continuosly asked myself if this is what I really wanted to do for the rest of my career. And to be honest the answer had always been straight and capital ‘NO’.

Quite frankly, I had like to do a lot of travelling, spend more quality time with my young family, play more golf and just relax generally and enjoy life a lot more. Unfortunately, the contract job didn’t allow me any of these luxuries. Besides I have had to endure commuting to work for an average 110miles (171km) everyday which really did my head in sometimes. Don’t get me wrong, the money was good but in the end I just didn’t feel happy inside and I truly knew I had to find something else to do.

I had always embraced the magic of the internet. I took up a freelance role as a blogger for a website that covered the World Cup last summer. I truly enjoyed it and decided to set up OnlineGist when that role ended. OnlineGist continues to grow and I am really happy about that. Besides, I have made some money promoting affiliate programs which I have truly enjoyed. And also dabbled in buying and selling domains for quick profits. The opportunities that the internet provide is endless to say the least.

Anyway I plan to spilt my online time at home between promoting affiliate products and developing my own informational products (websites, ebooks, audio, video etc). I will also be invovled in launching a property portal GetMoved here in the UK.

I am quite aware that working from home will be a big challenge in itself but I am truly looking forward to challenge to be honest. I understand the fact that my online income will be erratic to say the least. And I have also come to believe that nothing is really guaranteed online. Also, I will have to work very awkward hours to get the online business up and running. But like anything else, ‘Nothing Ventured Nothing Gained’, so I don’t want to look back 5-10 years down the line and say to myself, I wish I had done that.

I will be keeping a diary of what I actually get up to online so watch this space.

Cheers!!!

UK Internet Marketing Workshop Review

I had a wonderful time at the UK Internet Marketing Workshop organised by Frank Garon last weekend. This was the second event I had ever attended in as an Internet Marketer and definitely thought it was valuable time well spent. I now understand why it is important to invest some time to attending seminar, workshops, conferences.

I had chats with the speakers and fellow attendees and did a lot of networking at the event as well. Success in this business involves building relationships with other fellow marketers and workshops and seminars are the place to make that happen.

I list below some 3 tips and resources I came away with.

1) Picked up valuable information from experienced and expert internet marketers.
2) Networked with other fellow marketers. Potential JV opportunities a possibility.
3) Useful free bonuses that could be used to start an online business.

I am already looking forward to the next internet marketing workshop/event/seminar. They are a must for new and experienced internet marketers.

Thanks

UK Internet Marketing Workshop Update

Just a reminder that I will be attending Frank Garon’s Internet Marketing Workshop here in the UK tomorrow and Sunday. I have always wondered how to get the best out of workshops, seminars and conferences that I hope to attend now and in the future. I outline below what I plan to do to get the most out of the workshop.

1) Take notes whenever possible.
2) Find Out WhoIsWho. I hope to engage all the speakers at the workshop. We have 5 speakers at this workshop and my plan to engage each and every speaker either during the workshop or after.
3) Take lots of business cards and network with as many people as possible.
4) Listen attentively when engaging fellow guest or speaker. And let them know I am willing to help them whichever way possible.
5) Make a list of things I plan to do immediately after the workshop.
6) Make a second list of things to do 1-2 months down the line

I would be back with updates on the Workshop on Sunday. Watch this space

Cheers

Put Your Signature On Your Sites

I just read an article put together by ClickNewz’s Lynn Terry titled ‘Easy Handwritten Signatures’.

Personally, I have always wondered how to put signatures on sales letters, blogs and other web documents. And I didn’t realise how easy you could actually do it until I read Lynn’s post.

According to Lynn Terry, ‘Handwritten Signatures are a great way to brand yourself and add a professional image to your forum posts and emails. You can even add them to blog posts and articles to give them a more personal feel, or to brand your writing.’

And if you are wondering how to go about it, there is an easy solution that I adopted and got results in a matter of seconds.

You can check out my new signature at the end of the post to see an example of what you can achieve.

Enjoy!

UK Internet Marketing Workshop

I will be attending Frank Garon’s Internet Marketing Workshop here in the UK this coming weekend. I don’t often get to attend many seminars and workshops in the Uk so this event would give me an opportunity to network with other new and experienced internet marketers. I did attend Frank Garons Internet Marketing Summit last October and picked up a lot of useful tips on how to run an online business.

So I am confident the line up of experts that will include Neil Stafford, Neil Travers, Lee Benson and Nick James would share what is hot in the Internet Marketing arena today. Also, I hope to quizz the experts on the state of internet marketing here in the UK.

Most internet marketers that I relate to are concentrated in North America so I am interested to hear the views of the experts on what is hot here in the UK.

I will keep you posted on how I do get on.

Cheers

The $5 A Day Project

I recently read a very interesting e-book put together by Dennis Becker called ‘5 Bucks A Day’. His e-book explains how you can start little internet projects every week with the aim of making $5 at the end of the day. And then repeat the same process over and over again until you have built up a nest egg.

He starts off with a list of projects that he feels will make him at least $5 per day. He chooses one project at a time with the sole aim of making $5 per day. If he reaches this $5 target he move on to another little internet project with the aim of making at another $5 per day.

If all went to plan, he figured out that if he took 2 weeks vacation in the year, he would have completed 50 $5 a day projects which will earn him a whopping $250 a day with no end in sight. Of course some projects will make more than $5 a day whilst some might end up making that much.

I like the concept behind the $5 a day strategy for the following reasons :-

1) It allows you to FOCUS on finishing one project before starting a new one.
2) And if you look at a $5 a day goal compared to $200 a day goal, which do you think your mind is more likely to accept? I think the $5 a day goal looks more achievable. Also, you could actually make the $5 a day goal short term aim and $200 a day your long term aim.
3) You have a start off project list that continues to grow as your appetite for new projects grow. You can cross of projects that have made you $5 a day or more and replace them with new ones. Get the Gist!!!!

If you are wondering about what could make you $5 a day then here a few ideas:-
1) Set up Adwords Campaingn for a new affiliate program you like to promote.
2) Write and submit articles for your niche.
3) Save $5 on your current online business.
4) Review your favourite online product/service on your blog/website
5) Create a new mailing list for a new website
6) And so on….

Check Out ‘5 Bucks A Day’ ebook right here.

Cheers!

Listen to successful Internet Marketers spill the beans - Part II

My mentor Willie Crawford just wrote an interesting article on how to land more joint ventures with super duper affiliates.

How To Land More Joint Ventures With Super Affiliates
Copyright 2007 By Willie Crawford

You spend six months or more coming up with a great product that practically every Internet marketers would “love” to have. You develop the product, write and refine a great webpage, send traffic through it and get an incredible conversion rate. With your
big product finally ready to “roll out,” you start the process of lining up joint venture partners only to “hit a brick wall.”

Out of 50 potential joint venture partners that you contact about your product, offering them a generous 50% (or even 60%) commission, none of them can “fit it in!”

As you developed your product, and planned the launch, you realized that all you needed was for a few “super affiliates” to promote it, and you’d have your “six-figure month.” You knew that as soon as one “guru” promoted it, all of the others would notice, and would want to promote it too.

Yet your launch fizzled! Let’s look at few reasons that happens… all too often. Let’s look at how you can prevent that from happening during your launch.
